BRRRRRR!

It's cold out there! It was just below zero when the dog & I went out for a run at "civil twilight" aka 6:46 a.m. There wasn't much wind, but what there was really felt C O L D ! When we were protected by the trees, it felt fine. I thought Sky's feet might bother her, since she hasn't been out this much in a long time, so I brought the phone, but she held up just fine.

And so much for my TM and the 12 mpm it keeps telling me I'm running. I got through my 5 miler at a 9:00 pace, and the fastest segment was 8:0x. I need to check to see when I was running what pace, because I was significantly slower towards the end of the run.

I feel a little creaky, but that's to be expected after not having run this fast this far in six weeks. The good news is that my knee doesn't hurt.

No longer a temp, but still a slacker

As I look over this poor excuse for a blog, I see that I haven't posted since I got laid off back in September from my crummy temp job at Company, Inc. You'd think nothing was going on!

Well. I started running more, lots more. We had great fall weather and running outside around 10 a.m. seemed just about perfect. I was maintaining 30+ miles per week and had my best ever half marathon run at 1:55:59, in a week that totaled 44 miles. Then December came. I managed to fall down in the dark on two consecutive Thursdays. The second fall screwed up my right knee. The good thing is, nothing tore or ruptured or detached, so the orthopedist said to let pain be my guide. Yippee. I'm doing all my weekday runs on the TM now, as it's dark at 5:30 and it's cold (-19F on Monday morning) and we have two crazy guys running around the east side raping women. My runs are slower, but I keep my incline at 2 since I found out that running downhill hurts more than running uphill. I was running 6 to 6 1/2 hours a week before I got hurt and this week I'm up to 3 1/2 hours without pain. The weekly distance is drastically reduced, but we'll see how it translates to outside running once it gets lighter (and warmer!) in the mornings.

I also started cooking a lot more, which made my boys happy. I didn't knit much. We spent the holidays in Milwaukee and took the train home.

I also interviewed for two jobs. The first? Well, let's just say that I was not altogether unhappy when I got my email rejection. The second? Well, it was weird, as it resulted in an offer. I'd interviewed for the same job two years ago when I was trying to leave The Non-Profit That Shall Not Be Named. In fact, that was the one job offer I was really puzzled about not getting. Well, about month after the interview, they made an offer. But it was an offer for a job I hadn't interviewed for. And I accepted. And I've been here for almost two months. Benefits are a good thing to have. The boys and I are going to the eye doc for the first time in 2 years (for them, it's been 4 years since I've seen the eye doc!).
