New ski boots

So little boy's feet grew. That should not be surprising as he's grown at least six inches since freshman year. And yet, I am surprised, by his big feet and by the cost of two pairs of ski boots (one for classic, one for skate). He is paying half, though, and pointed out that he's spending 10% of his net worth on this purchase. He was also practically giddy yesterday after practice because his feet weren't cramped, frozen and uncomfortable. I told him that I expected to hear about some heat wins this season!

We had about four inches of SNOW last night, so not only did I get to shovel, but I get to ski at lunch!! Yeah!

1500 miles

Huh. I've run 1500 miles this year, as of yesterday. That seems like a fair distance.

I really should have listened to myself and remembered how much running sucked after last year's marathon. I should have taken a whole month off instead of trying to ramp back up. I don't really know what the problem is, perhaps the combination of 8 new pounds, a strained left Achilles tendon, a tight left ITB and piriformis and the general lethargy that early winter brings. We've also gotten the new Minnesota snow (a dusting to a coating) that turns lots of surfaces slippery and hazardous for this clumsy runner.

At this point, running a 50k next April is realistically not going to happen. I was in a lot of pain on Saturday after a slow 5 miles with little boy. Yesterday's 3 on the TM was alright, I stopped to stretch several times, but my foot hurts today. If things get better in the next month - I'm going to do a very slow easing back into running sort of schedule - I'll consider a spring marathon. All the cool kids are doing it, after all. Perhaps then an ultra towards the fall will work out.

I've actually gotten some communication from Big Boy in the past couple of weeks, which makes me both happy and sad. Happy cuz I get to hear from him, but sad because it makes me realize how much I miss him.
