Thoughts on a night out

As you may have guessed if you looked up my blog title, I have... umm... every CD k.d. lang has ever recorded. Even European releases and remixes. So I was a little enthusiastic about last night's concert, in a dignified and understated way befitting my station as an upstanding member of the bar, of course. It was completely awesome (in a different way than Patty Griffin, who is absolutely unbelievable) and she showed up Lyle Lovett (who was good, just not as good). SO does not share my... appreciation... for ms. lang, but admitted that she kicked Lyle's butt and put on a tremendous show. Does that girl ever have a set of pipes. She had no need for a mic at all. And, good news is that she's coming out with new music in February of next year.

We had dinner at Chambers. Expensive as hell, but really good. Now I have to figure out how to make a ginger lime margarita. I can't keep going back there at $10 a pop.

Weird things from the concert (the first of which could be more appropriately titled "Ugly Americans")
  • First, as we were going into the theater, a woman was holding the door for someone coming out. After that person was out of the doorway, the woman stood there and continued to hold the door. OK, fine. So I walked in. Then, apparently, the woman and her male companion walked in and SO followed them, hearing the woman snark, "I wasn't holding the door for you." Nice.
  • Second, in our seats (great seats by the way, 9th row center, thanks boss!), the young man next to me was reading a book. Then, another young man joined him and they proceeded to read aloud to each other. From the bible, apparently. This just skeeved me out. Weird, just plain weird. But they were fans of k.d., as it turned out, so I just ignored them.
A quick couple of vacation shots follow. I think I'll post the series on dogs tomorrow, if my dial-up lets me. Let's chalk up tonight's selections to my successful attempts at ginger margaritas (1 part tequila, 1/2 part triple sec, 1 part lime juice, 1 part simple syrup infused with ginger, a little more fresh grated ginger, ice).
